There were many different kinds of kings throughout 1485- 1688 and one of the most talked about was King Henry VIII. In the article I read called " Henry VIII's Scottish Policy" the Treaty of Union was introduced to unite England and Scotland together giving King Henry more power in his goal to rule over the British Isles (Article pg.1 Line 3). He was born June 28, 1491 and became ruler on the 22nd of April 1509. He later passed away on January 28, 1547. During his rule he made a revolutionary government and ruled over his people as a kind a just King. He also passed many laws to help the poor people of his kingdom so they could also prosper. This portrait of King Henry VIII was made by Hans Holbein and displayed in Museo Nacional Thyssen- Bornemisza, Madrid in ca.1537.(Portrait of King Henry) This portrait was made entirely oil pastel crayons. This style of portrait was a most popular genre in the 1600's because there were few available artist who could use this style to make a portrait. In a article it says "Holbein uses the frontal pose of the regal model and the position of his hands to convey the sitter’s powerful personality and majestic bearing." This portrait really grasps the Kings full essence and displays lots of time and dedication that was put into this portrait as seen from the great amount of detail. I was interested in King Henry VIII because unlike most rulers he ruled his kingdom with a very caring heart taking all of his people into consideration. Another article I read says that " Henry VII had worked very hard at government and governing. His approach led to many viewing the king as a boring man whose sole task was bettering ways of governing his people." (Henry's Beliefs) And even though this may be true he also wanted to better govern his people he was also afraid of them rebelling. He was really into maintaining the social order of society and making sure now one would defy the government.
