Nicolas Poussin

Portrait of Nicolas Poussin, 1594-1665
Rome, Italy

There was one a very famous painter known throughout Rome for his Classical French Baroque style and his name is "Nicolas Poussin." In the article " Nicolas Poussin" written by James Thompson it expresses how Poussin grew up and who he admired and respected as he pursed his dreams. Some people might say that his art was cold, rigorous, and arcane. In the article " Nicolas Poussin" " it says that Poussin was consistently admired by artists and scholars, but less loved by the general public."(pg.3 Paragraph.1) I believe this was due to his unique style of painting that was not so popular with the general public at this time.

In many of Poussin's people say that they  have a certain passion and visual quality that can be perceived in his paintings by many people. "In the article "Nicolas Poussin" poussin says that he infused passion into his work but his work was his passion. It also states that with his brush he interpreted and animated the passionate of poetry in his heart." (pg.4 Paragraph 3) In this regard I believe that he was really passionate about every paintings he has created and always liked to work alone.

I selected Nicolas Poussin because he seemed to be an interested artists that put in the time and hard work to make each of his paintings. It helped me understand a little bit more on how Poussin came to be known as a top notch artist.
